Turn left-handed. Stay locked on.

The Mollydooker Attachment by Stute Wood Lathes is a clever, purpose-built solution that allows woodturners to safely turn in reverse—or “left-handed”—without the risk of the chuck unscrewing from the spindle.

In traditional woodturning setups, most chucks are threaded onto the spindle in a way that naturally tightens during forward (standard) rotation. However, when reversing the lathe direction, that same threading can begin to loosen, creating a serious safety hazard. The Mollydooker attachment eliminates this risk entirely.

The unit fits securely between the lathe spindle and the wood chuck, acting as a locking intermediary. Once installed, it mechanically prevents the chuck from unthreading, even under reverse rotation or heavy cutting loads. This gives turners the freedom to work in the opposite direction with complete confidence.

The name “Mollydooker”—an old Australian slang term for a left-handed person—perfectly captures the attachment’s purpose. It opens up new turning possibilities, including improved access to difficult grain, cleaner finishing cuts, and better control when sanding or refining delicate forms.

Built with precision engineering and robust materials, the Mollydooker Attachment is ideal for both professional and hobbyist woodturners who want to expand their capabilities without compromising safety.

Call or email and let us know if you have a chuck capable of taking the Mollydooker or if you require a chuck and the Mollydooker.
