New Design

On the Stutey 3040 lathe, the triangle pendant controller is generally better than the rectangular pendant mainly because of ergonomics, safety, and control precision while turning. The difference is less about electronics and more about how a woodturner interacts with the machine while working.
Here are the main reasons the triangle pendant design works better.

1. Easier one-hand control
The triangular shape allows the controls to be placed in a natural arc for the hand:
  • thumb on the speed dial
  • finger on forward/reverse
  • palm naturally gripping the pendant
This means the operator can adjust speed without looking away from the work.
Why that matters:
Woodturning often requires constant small speed adjustments as the diameter of the piece changes.

2. Faster emergency stop access
The triangular layout usually places the E-stop or stop button at the top point of the triangle.
Benefits:
  • easier to hit quickly
  • visible from more angles
  • less chance of accidentally hitting the wrong button
When roughing large blanks, quick stop access is a real safety advantage.

3. Better pendant balance
A triangle hangs more naturally when suspended from a cable or mounted on a bracket.
Compared with a rectangular box:
  • it doesn’t rotate or swing as much
  • the face stays pointing toward the operator
That means the controls remain visible and easy to grab.

4. More intuitive control layout
A triangular pendant naturally separates the controls:
Typical layout:
  • Top point: stop / emergency stop
  • Bottom point: speed dial
  • Sides: forward / reverse
This separation reduces accidental button presses.

5. Designed for turning positions
Woodturners move constantly:
  • roughing from the side
  • sanding from the front
  • hollowing from different angles
The triangular pendant can be grabbed from multiple directions without flipping it around.
